The 5 coolest cars revealed at Vegas's SEMA car show
Aftermarket parts show in Las Vegas is home to some of the craziest concept cars around
This week the 2017 SEMA Show opened its doors to the public and members of the media, who have converged on the Las Vegas Convention Centre in Nevada for the aftermarket automotive equipment event.
Each year, manufacturers and independent car part companies create wild and wonderful show cars. Here are five of the best concepts on display at this year’s event.
Audi TT Clubsport Turbo Concept
The Audi TT’s burbly 2.5-litre, five-cylinder engine is fantastic in 335bhp RS guise, but now the German car manufacturer has turned performance up to 11 for this SEMA concept. With 592bhp going to all four wheels the race car-inspired Clubsport can sprint to 60mph in 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 193mph.
Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 AEV Concept
Created in collaboration with off-road experts American Expedition Vehicles, the ZR2 AEV gets a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine and modifications to make it even more capable when the road gets rough.
This includes a snorkel for water driving, underbody skid protection and chunky off-road-spec bumpers. Meanwhile, 35-inch BF Goodrich mud tyres provide better grip in slippery conditions, and a winch is fitted to help pull you out of trouble.
Dream Project Honda NSX
NSX expert ScienceofSpeed has given the latest version of Honda’s legendary supercar a GT3 racer-inspired makeover. The 3.5-litre internal combustion engine has been given liquid injected intercooling, which boosts the combined power of the petrol-electric hybrid system by 37bhp to 602bhp.
Toyota C-HR R-Tuned
In standard trim, the C-HR is an eco-focused hatchback with funky styling. However, Toyota has given it a serious makeover for SEMA, fitting a 600bhp four-cylinder petrol engine that powers the front wheels – the torque steer must be ferocious.
Ford Super Duty F-350 Lariat “The Operator”
If you’ve seen a Ford Ranger pick-up on the road in the UK and thought it was pretty big, you should see the trucks Ford offers in America. The biggest passenger truck is the F-350, and Ford has given one a makeover for the Las Vegas show. Called ‘The Operator’, it comes with rugged exterior upgrades and its own off-road buggy in the truck bed.
