Rally car takes on snow-covered Brands Hatch

The UK’s storm of snow may have lead many into a shutdown, but it hasn’t stopped staff at Brands Hatch putting a Toyota GT86 through its paces around the track

Snow has arrived in the UK and that means one thing – the country’s roads network is going into meltdown. But, while others choose not to brave the roads, staff at Brands Hatch racetrack in Kent decided to buck the trend.

Fortunately, the team at Brands Hatch have a purpose-built rally car that is a little more prepared for these conditions.

Videos shared by the track’s Twitter page show a modified Toyota GT86 performing some donuts and drifts, before taking on the full circuit in the slippery conditions – along with the caption “and now we take on the Brands Hatch GP circuit in a blizzard… how hard can it be?!!”.

Not very hard at all. Despite the tarmac being totally disguised among the grass and gravel run off by a blanket of snow, the unnamed driver manages to keep on track – undoubtedly thanks to the off-road prepped sports car’s capabilities.

As a track-going GT86 it will be have undergone several modifications. One look at it will easily tell you it’s likely to be packing more heat than the standard cars’ 197bhp and 205Nm of torque – with a good number of mechanical upgrades probably helping keep the rear-wheel drive machine planted.

Although the on-board video shows just a portion of the circuit being taken on, other tweets from the racetrack have suggested a full lap of the 2.4-mile GP circuit – the longest layout of Brands Hatch – was completed.

This looks like it could be a first for the track as, accompanying an image of the car on track, one post said “Big question motor sport experts. Has anyone lapped the GP loop in a blizzard before??!”.
