Honda’s UK Civic range is set for an expansion, with the arrival of a saloon variant later this year.

The four-door Civic is currently on sale on the continent and will come to British shores with two engine options identical to its hatchback counterpart – a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit, which can be paired with a six-speed manual or CVT gearbox, alongside a 1.6-litre diesel with the choice of the same manual transmission or a nine-speed automatic.

As for its appearance, the Civic saloon has a more conventional look than its hatchback sibling – which takes on a more aggressive appearance – but remains instantly recognisable thanks to a similar front fascia.

Both cars also share a platform, which Honda claims gives the saloon ‘class-leading’ interior space.

Phil Webb, head of car at Honda UK, said: “The Civic is a core model for Honda in Europe and has been at the heart of the brand’s strong sales and manufacturing heritage, with the hatchback built in Swindon.
