McLaren Special Operations brings iconic racing livery to customer’s 675LT

McLaren’s personalisation arm creates Gulf Oil-inspired livery for a limited-edition supercar

The McLaren 675LT may have been out of production for a year now, but that hasn’t stopped the manufacturer’s personalisation arm kitting out one of the supercars in an iconic racing livery.

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) – the team responsible for unique projects tasked to them by buyers of the British firm’s performance machinery – has applied a Gulf Oil-inspired paint job to the limited-run model for its owner.

There’s a two-tone base colour – light blue and black – on this 675LT, divided by an orange line matching one along the top of the car, while a red stripe features on each side. There are even matching orange wheels – although no sponsorship decals are in sight, unlike the stickered-up F1 GTR race car.

The theme continues inside the customer’s car. ‘MSO Bespoke’ Alcantara-wrapped seats feature with orange and blue contrasting stitching, while orange seatbelts have been included, too. The owner’s initials have even been embroidered into each headrest.

MSO says it took more than 1,000 hours of work to create the package – with the paintwork accounting for 800 hours of that.

“Transforming the existing car from its original single colour paintwork to a tribute to the McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ in Gulf Racing livery was incredibly demanding in its own right but was only part of the brief. We also replaced numerous standard 675LT components with MSO parts and further personalised the car to clearly identify it with its owner – a service that an increasing number of MSO customers request.”
