Jaguar adds artificial intelligence tech and more to E-Pace
Popular compact SUV has been enhanced with a variety of new features
Jaguar’s E-Pace SUV is now available with AI technology and adaptive suspension, as well as a new petrol engine.
The cutting-edge artificial intelligence system allows the car to ‘learn’ a driver’s habits and adjust the vehicle’s settings accordingly to make everyday life a little easier.
For instance, it’s able to tell when the driver is approaching by sensing the key fob and the user’s smartphone Bluetooth signal. It will then adjust the seat, climate control and infotainment systems according to the driver’s normal settings.
The system will adapt over time and will be able to turn on the heated steering wheel on a cold day or play a certain type of media on any particular day.
In addition, the car is capable of reminding the driver if they’ve forgotten their smartphone, and can even learn the motorist’s call habits and cue phone contacts at particular times of the day.
Jaguar has also added adaptive dynamics suspension, which uses variable damper technology to constantly adjust the car’s damping. In fact, it can monitor the vehicle’s movements every two milliseconds and calculate the amount of damping required in just 10 milliseconds.
This allows the car to better respond to changes in road surface, and therefore provide better control while reducing the amount of body roll generated.
A new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine has also been added to the E-Pace’s list of drivetrains. It’s the first time that the E-Pace has been available with the 197bhp unit, which is able to power the E-Pace to 60mph in 7.7 seconds while returning 34.4mpg on the combined cycle and emitting 186g/km of CO2.
Prices for the Jaguar E-Pace start at £28,500, with those cars fitted with the new 197bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre engine starting at £33,260.
