Volvo offers more choice for V60 buyers with new R-Design trim

Executive wagon benefits from new, sportier trim — backed by plenty of equipment

Published

Volvo has added a new trim level to its V60 range, which it predicts will become the best-seller.

The new V60 R-Design majors on dynamic styling and impressive interior equipment and rivals the likes of the Mercedes C-Class Estate AMG Line and BMW 3 Series Touring M Sport.

R-Design cars are available with the standard suite of engines, including D3 and D4 diesels with 148bhp or 187bhp, plus a T5 petrol with 246bhp. Unique to this model though is sports suspension, riding 12mm lower than the standard car and featuring stiffer spring rates, thicker anti-roll bars and more responsive dampers.

The major changes are to the V60s visuals, though. There’s high-gloss black trim on the front grille, door mirrors and roof rails, while the chrome window surrounds and exhaust finishers have also been replaced with black units. A new set of 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels finish off the look.

For the interior, there’s more black goodies – a dark headlining, sports leather steering wheel and gear lever and part-leather sports seats. In place of wood trim are mesh-style metal inlays, while metal sports pedals and etched treadplates complete the cabin touches.

There’s also ample standard equipment. Volvo’s nine-inch Sensus touchscreen features alongside a premium 10-speaker audio system, automatic headlights, all-round parking sensors and a powered tailgate. The brand’s impressive suite of active safety equipment is also included.

For those wanting a bit more, R-Design Pro trim upgrades the V60 to 19-inch alloy wheels and adds active headlights, keyless entry, a head-up display, electrically adjusted driver’s seat and tinted rear windows.

Order books are open now for the Volvo V60 R-Design, which starts from £35,410. Customer deliveries are expected to begin from the start of 2019.
