Virtual Cockpit technology comes to Skoda

Skoda is introducing a new, fully programmable TFT display instrument cluster for four of its models.

Dubbed Virtual Cockpit, the technology brings five programmable screen set-ups in place of traditional analogue dials.

The Virtual Cockpit includes a high-definition display, which has been specifically designed for 3D impression graphics and ‘exceptional’ clarity, according to Skoda. It also offering a raft of personalisation options.

Alongside data regular dials would show, such as speed, revs and fuel, Virtual Cockpit can also display navigation and media information. There’s also a section of the display dedicated to showing additional info such as gear recommendations to the driver, distance to the next turn or how long is left until the final destination.

Although new to Skoda, Virtual Cockpit has been available some time in Audi models as well as appearing in Volkswagen cars as Active Info Display. The system will be based on the same software as these models but is likely to be given a Skoda-specific skin.

Skoda’s Virtual Cockpit is available from £450 including VAT and is available on the Octavia and Superb from SE trim upwards or on the Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs from SE L upwards. Range-topping Kodiaq vRS models even get a specific, driver-oriented display.
