Police stopped a motorist for driving erratically – and found the car had no front tyre.

Shocked officers in the Norfolk and Suffolk Roads and Armed Policing Team made the astonishing discovery after stopping the driver on the A11 near Wymondham, Norfolk, on Saturday.

The front right wheel was somehow travelling on just the rim.

Officers breathalysed the driver and found them to be more than three times the drink-drive limit. The motorist was then arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

A police tweet said: ‘Central team have stopped a vehicle after a call reporting erratic driving . . . They were shocked to find a car being driven with no front tyre.’

Users commented on the post, with one saying: “I don’t know whether to laugh or cry” while many others said: “Unbelievable”.

The car appears to be a facelifted Mk3 Volkswagen Polo, built between 1999 and 2002.
