Skoda has bolstered its existing SUV line-up with the addition of a new 2.0-litre petrol engine option.

The 187bhp unit is heavily present throughout the VW Group’s various brands and has now debuted on the Skoda Kodiaq and Karoq SUVs. It sends that power, along with 320Nm of torque, to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG gearbox in both cars as standard.

In the Kodiaq, that results in a 0-60mph time of 7.5 seconds and can return up to 30.1-31.7mpg on the combined WLTP cycle along with emitting 162g/km of CO2 depending on specification. As for the Karoq, 0-60mph comes in 6.8 seconds, while fuel efficiency is claimed at 33.2-32.1mpg with CO2 emissions of 158g/km in Sportline trim — which the engine is available exclusively in.

Pricing for the Karoq and Kodiaq fitted with the new 2.0-litre petrol start from £31,820 and £34,120 respectively. Order books are now open, with deliveries following imminently.

Skoda’s SUV range is soon set to expand to three models in the UK with the arrival of the Kamiq later this year. Revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, the crossover sits at the bottom of the Czech firm’s large car range and will take on the likes of Mazda’s CX-3 and Nissan’s Juke.
