Skoda Assistance comes to the Superb’s rescue

A dashboard warning light was a cause for concern. Fortunately enough, Skoda Assistance found that there was little to worry about

Skoda Assistance were quick to help out

Now into its second month on our long-termer fleet, our Skoda Superb SportLine has been a joy to drive.

But when the coolant warning light came on after just 2,000 miles and with the owner’s manual suggesting I pull over and stop driving immediately, my heart began to sink.

Up to this point I’d been blown away by the all-round performance of our lightning fast Skoda and I didn’t want anything tarnishing my feelings towards it.

The coolant was the culprit of the fault

I needn’t have worried.

Within half an hour of my original call, a lovely Skoda Assistance technician called George was by my side at Tot Hill services on the A34 and ready to help. His ETA had been predicted almost to the minute in a series of texts received from the brand’s breakdown mission control.

No sooner had George popped open the bonnet had he reassured me that there was actually no problem and in fact an oversensitive sensor in the coolant reservoir had triggered the warning unecessarly.

George then proceeded to top up the coolant, along with the screenwash, and checked the oil and other levels before waving me off on my way.

In all, from pulling over in to the services to getting back on the road, the whole process took just 45 minutes.

And, if it’s not too much of a cliché, I must say that the service was, well, Superb.

Other than this very minor hiccup, KU18 ZNH has continued to dazzle with its performance.

Despite fully enjoying the delights of its powerful 2-0-litre turbocharged petrol engine on a daily basis, it’s still returning a respectable 30mpg on average and, when driven lightly, really impresses on the fuel front.

It’s comfortable too. The few long journeys I’ve done so far have been a pleasure and the Superb’s ability to swallow up huge amounts of luggage is mind-blowing. I particularly love the vast amounts of concealed boot space hidden under the false floor.

And another welcome feature on recent hot summer days has been the chilled glove box and armrest storage compartment. Both are fantastic at keeping drinks ice cold on long journeys and I’m finding myself keeping them well stocked.
