Pictures From The Past - August 18Welcome to this week's collection of nostalgia photos from the pages of the Shropshire Star.By Toby NealPublished Aug 18, 2017 CommentsWe don't often pop across the county border in this slot, but a new book out this month, "Leominster History Tour" by local author Malcolm Mason, gives us the opportunity to visit the Herefordshire town and land in New Street as it was years ago. It dates the picture to the late 1800s and says: "New Street was a busy community with many shops, tradesmen and lodging houses. In the centre of the photograph, with a flagpole, is the drill hall where the town's Territorials mustered to march off to both world wars. This is flanked by an interesting mix of old buildings, including the old borough gaol; all of them were demolished to make way for the inner relief road in the 1970s." The pocket-sized book, published by Amberley, takes readers on a historical tour of the town. By the way, if you can't see the flagpole, it is there, it is just very faint.
