History talk on channel swimmer Webb
Historian Alan Heighway will tell the story of the first man to swim the English Channel at a talk in the county.
Captain Matthew Webb, who became a world-famous celebrity after completing the feat in 1875, will be the subject of Newport History Society's next meeting.
Webb came from Dawley and is commemorated by a statue in the town.
The event will be held at the Baptist Church in Water Lane, on February 19, starting 7.30pm. Visitors are welcome.
