That's our house, says Meg
When we published a Shawbury photo the other day in our Pictures From The Past slot, we had to admit that we didn't immediately recognise where it was in the village.
But Megan Bilson immediately did - as it turns out to show her house on the A53 Shrewsbury Road.
Sadly the neighbouring black and white building on the right, which must surely have been one of the village's gems, has long been demolished.
The image had been loaned to us by Bridgnorth postcard collector Ray Farlow.
Megan emailed in to say: "In your recent edition of the Shropshire Star you printed an old image of Shawbury on page 9. Your caption says you weren't sure of the exact location. However we immediately recognised it as our house!
"We recently moved into Shawbury House which is the brick building in the picture which we are now renovating and conserving.
"The black and white house has sadly been demolished, most likely in the mid 20th century as the buildings are still detailed on our deeds from the 1950s. Where these buildings once stood the Carradine Flats on the corner by the traffic lights are now located.
"The brick property in the image is Shawbury House, at the time of this image it was called Shawbury Farm House. Its farm buildings have also been demolished.
"It was really interesting seeing this picture as we haven't yet found any historic images of the house which we are keen to do so as part of our conservation of the house.
"Please thank Ray Farlow for preserving this little piece of history. Thank you again for printing the image and hopefully this email will shed light on its location for your readers."
The next mystery is... why did the photographer take a picture specifically of the house all those years ago, rather than a more general street scene? Was it the home of somebody of great note?
