Walsall Council in flexi-work clampdown
A crackdown on flexible working at Walsall Council has been launched by bosses as they try to claw back savings and keep staff cuts to a minimum.
Changes are being planned to be introduced from January.
Bosses confirmed today staff who currently work to flexi-time rotas will be forced to work more hours for less time off under plans for the shake-up to take effect on January 1.
They say the rethink is needed to "fit the operational needs of the council".
Councillor Chris Towe, portfolio holder for finance and personnel at Walsall Council, said today: "The council has, in consultation with staff and unions, made changes to the current Flexible Working Procedure.
"The fundamental principles of flexible working have not changed, but we need a system that fits the operational needs of the council.
"The main change to the system is that staff will accrue less hours. We believe this review is timely and in line with other local authorities. As the new scheme does not come into effect until next year, we cannot therefore give any data on potential savings."
