Brexit ruling: Opinions divided as ever in Shropshire over next move
Brexit continues to divide the British public with Shropshire shoppers left split over the latest high court developments.
People at Telford Shopping Centre and Wellington High Street voiced concerns about the potential cost of any delay, and the perception that Britain is messing other countries around, while others are just fed up and want it over.
Hannah Wells from Urban Way in Wellington, said: "I think the latest delay is a good idea because Brexit is a bad idea."
The 24-year-old trainee teacher added: "About half the people that voted to leave then changed their minds once they realised what happens.
"If it stalls it then it's a good idea, but it'll be hard for those who actually wanted out, because they voted and now the Government is ignoring it."
Couple Sylvan Bowdler and Molly Leigh, from Castle Road in Dawley both were pleased with the High Court intervention.
Sylvan, a 22-year-old student, said: "I think it's a good thing, we both voted in.
"It gives it more time to be thought out.
"It gives it a good amount of time to be decided upon by not just politicians but academics and others too."
Molly, a 20-year-old council administrator said: "It's a silly thing to be rushing into, it's going to affect a lot of people so the longer it takes the better informed everybody is going to be."
A retired couple from Bristol were visiting Telford for a conference. Robin and Heather Thomas said the democratic will should be followed but added they were concerned the delay is "mucking about with the other countries".
Mrs Thomas, 62, said: "Generally, because Robin's got a neurological disease, we're concerned because what will happen if it affects the safeguarding of the people who can't look after themselves?
"So we voted to stay in, but democracy is correct, people have voted, but it's always got to have a review at some stage.
"It's a big decision.
"It's a difficult situation for Theresa May, she wanted Brexit but how we get around it I don't know.
"It's mucking about with the other countries and I think they'll get fed up."
Mr Thomas, 64, said: "We're taking advantage of the other countries."
A retired woman from Muxton who voted out said it was "a bit of a blow" for those who had voted to leave.
Ruth Jones, 68, said: "I voted out so anything that delays it isn't good.
"They're going to delay it.
"Most people who voted out want it to see some movement.
"People made their vote so I think it should count."
"It probably is a bit of a blow for them."
