Lucy Allan has been selected by the party to stand for the Conservatives in June's snap election.

Mrs Allan was elected by a majority of members, but it has been reported that there was an attempt to deselect her.

Speaking today, Mrs Allan said she was "honoured" to have been reselected as Telford's candidate.

Mrs Allan said: "It has been the greatest privilege to serve as Telford's MP for the last two years.

"I am honoured to have been re selected as the Conservative candidate to contest the 2017 General Election on June 8.

"I hope that Telford residents will allow me the opportunity to serve them to the best of my ability and to continue to be their voice in Westminster, campaigning on the issues that matter most to our community.

"Telford is a fantastic place to live, work and raise a family, but there is more work to do to secure Telford's future.

"It is vital for Telford's success that the country has strong and stable leadership to see us through the Brexit negotiations and beyond.

"Theresa May has demonstrated that she understands Telford and can address our needs and concerns and deliver the leadership the country needs."

Councillor Ian Fletcher, president of the Telford Conservative Association said: "There was a selection meeting held last night and Lucy Allan was reselected as candidate."

Owen Paterson, North Shropshire MP, has also been selected by the Conservatives to stand again for his seat.
