Areas of Telford to share in £1 million regeneration fund
Some of Telford's oldest estates, public areas and shopping parades will be improved as part of a £1million regeneration.
Areas of Donnington, Hadley and Stirchley will see major improvements over the next two years.
Telford & Wrekin Council is also investigating potential regeneration schemes in other areas of the borough including Hollinswood, Aqueduct, Overdale and Woodside.
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for economic development, said: “Telford is absolutely unique in its geography linking new communities with old and in our continued speed of growth and that means we have to develop specially designed schemes to ensure investment reaches communities across the borough.
“Some of the borough’s older areas including estates that were developed when Telford first came into being very much fall into this category.
“I am delighted that we are able to commit this fund to make a difference to these areas and I am looking forward to working with partners including parish and town councils to identify how it can best be spent.
“We have already identified some specific schemes in places like Stirchley, Randlay and Donnington but I anticipate we will be making more announcements in the coming months when some of that partnership working has developed further."
Specific projects will include working with the parish councils, schools and churches in Stirchley to address challenges around the local centre and opportunities to redevelop the area.
And in Donnington, the focus will be on making improvements in and around the Parade, maintaining and improving local shops and increasing footfall.
Developers at key sites including Church Walk in Donnington and the former Manor Heights in Hadley have also received support from the council.
It has worked with developers to support delivery including linking them in to funding for stalled sites, ensuring sites are safe and that anti-social behavior issues are tackled.
The £1m improvements will be on top of Pride In Our Community and Pride In Our High Streets funds.
