PM should deliver Brexit this week or go – Paterson
The Prime Minister must either deliver the Brexit she promised, or stand aside for somebody else who will, says North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson.
The leading eurosceptic said Theresa May had failed to deliver her election pledge, and criticised her decision to hold talks with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
"Despite most of the Cabinet, most Conservative MPs, most of the party and much of the public now supporting 'no deal', the Prime Minister's pathological aversion to decision making has ensured that we will never leave without one," he said.
"She would rather have the support of unreconstructed Marxists and those who seek the destruction of the United Kingdom than she would the backing of her own party."
Mr Paterson said it was now essential that Britain left the EU this week to give business the certainty it needed.
"It would finally allow businesses to know where they stand and release much pent-up, pending investment," he said.
"Another extension would have the opposite effect. It would cost over £1 billion per month. It would undermine the integrity of our democratic institutions, and it would prove disastrous for the Conservative Party."
