Shropshire Council election 2021: Full list of candidates
Names of the 232 candidates standing in next month’s Shropshire Council elections have been published.
Voters will cast their ballots on May 6 to choose 74 members who will serve a four-year term.
All but one of the seats will be contested by at least two candidates, but Nigel Lumby, the Conservative candidate in Albrighton is elected unopposed. He replaces long-serving councillor and former council leader Malcolm Pate, who has moved away.
Half of the current members have served on the council since it was created in 2009, but this is set to change, with 17 serving councillors not running for re-election.
The county is split into 53 single-member divisions, nine two-member wards and one three-member ward.
The Conservatives, who currently have control of the council, are fielding a full slate of candidates, while their main opposition party, the Liberal Democrats, are putting up 57.
Labour and the Green Party have 41 candidates each, while there are also 15 independents, two representing Reform UK and two UKIP.
