New figures from the Department for Levelling Up and Communities show the council spent £1,102,000 to make 31 staff members redundant in the year to March 2023.

Each package had an average cost of £36,000 each.

Less redundancies were made in the year to March 2023 in comparison to the year before when a total of 51 redundancies were made at a cost of £1,318,000.

The Local Government Association said unlike the civil service, councils have seen their workforce shrink while facing "increasing demand for services".
