Arnold England and Jackie Loveridge (incumbents), Labour

Arnold England and Jackie Loveridge

Jackie Loveridge and Arnold England are seeking re-election as your borough councillors. Both live in the Brookside ward and have served the area as borough councillors for the past eight years.

Working together with the community, Jackie and Arnold have protected and secured investment for the Brookside Community Centre which provides services and support groups for the area. They have helped to secure funding for improved roads and footpaths, more car parking and will continue to make sure further investment is secured. They have also helped to have the street lighting improved with energy saving LED lights.

Jackie and Arnold have regularly worked with local PCSOs to combat anti-social behaviour and have worked with the parish council to develop youth services. They are committed to maintaining the partnership between the borough and parish council to keep the area clean and tidy and report any fly-tipping.

Jackie and Arnold will continue to work to seek environmental and infrastructure improvements for the area. Jackie runs and supports community groups in the Brookside Community Centre and will continue to be readily available for surgeries. Arnold will continue to work closely with foster and carers groups, especially those with learning and mental health needs. We will tackle rogue private landlords and houses of multiple occupation to ensure they are properly maintained.

Shana Roberts

I believe in the Liberal Democrats’ guiding ethos that “no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity”. As a representative of Brookside, it is important to me that all residents have access to the same opportunities as everyone else in the borough, such as good schools, a safe, clean and green environment, accessible and affordable public transportation and reliable local services and amenities.

My three priorities for Brookside are:

1. Community Pride and Public Safety

  • Working with local policing teams to understand issues and what the community can do to better support them

  • CCTV in known criminal hotspots.

  • Provisions for young people in school holidays.

  • Working together to repurpose neglected green spaces

2. Roads and Transportation

  • Replace existing speed reduction measures on Brookside Avenue with appropriate and robust long term alternatives.

  • Review of current bus routes in consultation with residents.

  • Creation of designated pedestrian crossings in response to losing underpasses.

3. Supporting Small Businesses and Encouraging Social Enterprise

  • Using the skills, knowledge and expertise of residents for the betterment of our community.

  • Supporting local businesses.

  • Encouraging resident-led groups and clubs to tackle social isolation and invest back in our people.
