Statements by the candidates for Priorslee ward in the 2019 Telford & Wrekin Council local election.
Four candidates, two seats available.
Some candidates who belong to the same party chose to submit a combined manifesto.
Ian Fletcher and Veronica Fletcher (incumbents), Conservative
Ian and Veronica are proud to serve Priorslee as borough and parish councillors and have lived in and been part of the community in Priorslee for almost 32 years and attend St Peter’s Church.
We serve on the management committee of the St Georges Recreation Ground and Public Hall which provides sports and social facilities for the wider community including Priorslee.
As well as serving their wards, councillors have many duties on the borough council which gives them wide experience delivering services and making a difference to so many.
Ian has served on many Committees including Planning, Audit, Council Constitution and as Chairman of the Member Development Committee.
Veronica’s area of council activities includes Planning, Health and Adult Care Scrutiny. She is Fairtrade Champion for the Council and a Director at Priorslee Primary Academy.
We are Virtual Governors for all Children in Care.
Through all experiences, we know the difficulties people may encounter and wherever possible have helped to solve and deal them.
Through working for you, many gains have been achieved in Priorslee, for example: The Castle Farm Way pelican crossing, replaced foot bridges, improvements to play areas and a multi-use games area on Gatcombe Way. Bus Service 14 retained and extension to Shifnal.
Improvement schemed including Sensory Garden, Flower Planting and Picnic Benches. Overhanging bushes and vegetation have been cut back. Litter picking has improved.
We support Business Enterprise in the area.
We always work together to improve and maintain the environment. If re-elected this will continue as well as all the duties to help and improve our community and Telford and Wrekin.
Adrian Forster and Gurdip Singh, Labour
Adrian Forster and Gurdip Singh are proud to be the Labour candidates for the place they call home: Priorslee.
Adrian has been an active hospital campaigner and is against any downgrade of our hospital services in Telford.
Gurdip, who runs a local business in the area, is passionate about representing the people of Priorslee, and ensuring they have a strong voice on local issues.
Gurdip and Adrian are committed to protecting the Priorslee Flash and the nature walks which local families enjoy and value. Gurdip and Adrian were proud to lead the campaign to get areas of green space within Priorslee protected from any future development.
They are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour in Priorslee and are against any cuts to the number of bobbies on the beat. They will work with local partners to ensure Priorslee is a safe place to live and work.
If elected, they promise to:
Improve road safety outside of schools, a scheme which the local Tories voted against.
Keep green bin collection free, unlike in Tory-run Shropshire Council.
Protect local green spaces and ensure their future for generations to come.
Listen to local people, hold regular residents’ meetings and stand up for the place they call home.
