When work stalled on a multi-million pound housing development in Shropshire because of the recession, the future looked bleak for one of the county's most iconic period buildings.

But the Wem Mill development has bounced back after being snapped up by new owners who have finished the renovation of the historic building and have just welcomed the first resident.

Aimee Pritchard, 26, a payroll manager, is the first person to move in to the development, which features 36 luxury flats.

She said: "When I visited the development, I knew it was the place for me.

"In terms of where it's situated, it's so convenient, as it's only a short walk into town - perfect for a night out and parking isn't a problem.

"Plus, the apartment I chose, a two-bed property, looks out on to the river, so it's an attractive setting and quiet too.

"I'm really enjoying life in my new apartment. It's a great space and has been finished to a high standard, with quality specifications.

"I would definitely advise househunters to pay the development a visit. I'm sure many first time buyers out there are unsure if they can afford to get on the property ladder, but I'm proof you can."

Guild Homes is marketing the Mill Street apartments after a period of uncertainty about the development's future ended.

Now the one and two-bedroom apartments are available to buy with prices ranging from £99,950 to £139,995. Guild Homes said some of the apartments had also initially been set aside as rental properties.
