Moving to Bridgnorth

In our property feature this week, we look at moving to Bridgnorth, a market town on the banks of the River Severn with a rich history.

Published

Perched around the banks of the meandering River Severn, the large and historic market town of Bridgnorth has a population of around 12,000.

Interestingly, the town is split into two parts; Low Town and High Town, which are linked by road and a cliff railway - the only one of its type in the country.

Bridgnorth has become an extremely busy and popular hive of activity, with its weekly markets, excellent leisure facilities and numerous pubs.

Transport:

Bridgnorth is within easy reach of both Telford and Wolverhampton by road, with both accessible within half an hour on a good run.

The Bridgnorth Railway Station is on the Severn Valley Railway heritage line and runs to Kidderminster several times a day.

What the people say:

Polly Shelton-Lowe said on Twitter that the best aspects of life in Bridgnorth are the pubs, river, picturesque surroundings and the community spirit. The worst are the buses and supermarkets.

Dan Bradley tells us on Twitter: "I've grown up here. A great place to live but good job opportunities for young people are limited. You need to be able to drive."

Schools:

Primary: Bridgnorth has a number of primary schools in the area. St John's Catholic Primary School was rated as 'Outstanding' in the latest Ofsted inspection.

Meanwhile, St Leonard's CofE, Castlefields and Marville CofE were all rated as 'Good' in their most recent inspection.

Secondary: Bridgnorth has two secondary schools - Oldbury Wells School and Bridgnorth Endowed School. Both were rated as 'average' in their most recent Ofsted inspections.

Property prices:

The average house price paid in Bridgnorth over the past three years is £216,261. The average house price has decreased by 7.66% in that time - an average monetary loss of £16,797.
