Moving to Telford
We look at moving to Telford, the largest town in Shropshire with great transport links to the West Midlands.

As part of our regular property features on life in different areas of Shropshire, we look at moving to Telford, including information on schools, transport and house prices.
Telford is a predominantly modern town within the borough of Telford and Wrekin, and the largest town in the county of Shropshire, with a population of around 138,000.
Famously named after the civil engineer, Thomas Telford, the town was constructed in the 1960s on largely agricultural land around the smaller, existing towns of Wellington, Madeley, Dawley and Oakengates.
For a relatively young town, the area of Telford encompasses some significant historical sites, including the scenic Ironbridge Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Coalbrookdale, a site of great significance in the Industrial Revolution.
Transport:
The town is well served by transport links and the M54 motorway, and its proximity to the rest of the West Midlands has made it an ideal location for commuting.
There are also hourly trains to Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.
What the people say:
Andy Silman and Sarah Daffern both agreed on Twitter that the best aspect to Telford life is the countryside. Andy said: "you don't have to travel far and you're in the countryside and beautiful scenery."
Dominic Bastone added that there are some "great country pubs" and Angela Sowdon said that is "lots to do if you want to look for it, but the downside - we have more pot holes than people."
Schools:
The Thomas Telford School is particularly noteworthy as the one of the leading comprehensive schools in the country, vastly outperforming national grade targets and achieving an almost perfect record of in 5+ GCSE passes A*-C.
Further education is also available at Telford College of Arts and Technology and the New College in Wellington.
Property prices:
The average house price paid for a property in Telford over the past three years was £145,974. The average property value has decreased by 21.7% in that time, an average monetary loss of £38,028.
