Fresh fears over bid to build 22 Ellesmere homes next to beauty spot

Fresh fears have been raised about controversial plans to create 22 homes next to a beauty spot in a Shropshire town after a planning application was submitted for the scheme.

Developers want to create the homes and extend the existing cemetery on land off Swan Hill in Ellesmere, next to the Mere. But fears have been raised about the environmental impacts the scheme would have, including contamination of the Mere.

Developers have applied to Shropshire Council for outline planning permission, which was discussed at last night's Ellesmere Town Council meeting.

More than 20 residents attended the meeting to voice concerns and Alan Clarke, mayor of Ellesmere, said: "This council cannot approve this application."

Councillors voted to hold a special town council meeting to discuss the application.
