Area is earmarked for 50 new Shropshire homes
Plans for a major expansion of a Shropshire village have been announced – even though developers admit they don't have the support of parish councillors.
The outline proposal would see 50 homes on more than seven acres of land off Whittington Road in Gobowen.
A planning statement lodged with Shropshire Council on behalf of applicant Michael Evans says the site had been "continuously promoted" as part of the council's SAMDev process which looks at where houses should be built in the county.
The statement says it had previously been assessed by Shropshire Council as a "realistic site without significant physical constraint".
But it adds the proposal has not won favour with Selattyn and Gobowen Parish Council. The statement says: "Development on this land has not been supported by the parish council as it lies outside of the existing development boundary.
"Shropshire Council considered that the adopted development boundary is of less significance. The priority must be the provision of additional sites in sustainable locations in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework."
