Site visit over bid to build 170 Newport homes
An inquiry into plans to build up to 170 homes in Newport is expected to come to a close this week.
More than 20 residents attended a site visit by an inspector, where he walked around land east of Kestrel Close and Beechfields Way in Newport.
There they were able to point out things for his attention, but were not able to make representations.
Councillor Tim Nelson, Telford & Wrekin Council ward member for Newport north and west, said the inspector expects to hear closing statements from barristers from both the developer and the council, before beginning his own summing up, likely to be on Friday.
Redrow Homes wants outline planning permission to build the properties and is trying to push through the plans at the public inquiry, which is being held at the Ramada Hotel in Telford. It comes after Telford & Wrekin Council planners indicated it would refuse the scheme due to the site being in countryside, veteran oak trees could be lost and having insufficient information being received.
Revised plans were submitted but later withdrawn.
The proposals were met with widespread objection from the community.
The inquiry began on November 29 and was originally expected to run for six days.
