Petition launched against Telford homes plans

An online petition has been launched against plans for hundreds of new homes in Muxton.

The petition has been set up by Kevin Brace and is against several planning applications which have been lodged to build homes in the village.

At a Telford & Wrekin Council planning meeting on Wednesday, councillors backed officers' recommendations that plans for 150 houses near Wellington Road should be refused.

There has been widespread protest to the proposals, but they will now be considered and determined by the Planning Inspectorate at a public inquiry in June.

Plans have also been put forward for 665 homes on land north of Breton Park, off New Trench Road in Muxton.

Meanwhile, more homes are planned in Muxton Lane, which is subject to a public inquiry scheduled to take place next month.

The petition states: "As a local community we are keen to protect the green spaces around the village of Muxton.

"There have been a number of privately proposed planning applications on greenfield sites around Muxton.

"We are currently fighting against three separate proposed developments which we believe will adversely affect our highly desired and much regarded green spaces, quiet lanes, footpaths, fields, and areas and buildings of historic and ecological importance.

"The amount of developments in nearby Newport has already affected school catchment areas for Muxton residents.

"Schools, traffic, and general quality of life are all being jeopardised from the aggressive developers on greenfield sites."

The petition has already been signed by about 100 people.

Dozens of supporters have also posted comments stating the village stands to lose its identity and doctors surgeries and schools will be unable to cope.

Peter Hicks, of Muxton, wrote: "I am extremely concerned about the 2000 + houses that have been applied for in the area.

"They will saturate the locality and put local resources in jeopardy.

"Why build on green fields when there are alternatives."

Margaret Bowden, of Muxton, posted: "I'm signing because I feel strongly about our village and the fact that our greenfields are fast disappearing with the over zealous building applications."

And Joanna Stokes said: "I live in Muxton, services, doctors and schools etc will be over stretched ....leave the green spaces alone."

Clare Aaron added: "I live in Muxton and regularly walk my dogs through the green fields, they are disappearing at a vast rate already.

"There is also not enough infrastructure to support such huge developments.

"Muxton is a lovely place to live but there are not enough doctors, dentists, shops or school places and the roads are already utter chaos at peak times of the day."
