Telford council launches its own energy price comparison website
A council has launched its own price comparison website, to help residents save money on energy bills.
Telford & Wrekin Council has launched Switch Telford , its own energy price comparison and switching website, in partnership with Ofgem accredited UK Power.
With every switch made, irrespective of which supplier has been chosen, the council will receive a commission and this will help limit cuts to front line services.
The search engine, which powers the switches, will determine the best supplier for each household and gives independent advice on the cheapest tariff.
Residents using the service will have all the gas and electricity deals on the market in one place, in real time and for free, and can switch in minutes.
Councillor Lee Carter, cabinet member for council finance, partnerships & commercial services said: "We are delighted to be able to offer a switching service for our residents. By offering this service we can help residents save money on their gas and electricity bills, whilst ensuring it's provided by a trusted source."
“By partnering with UK Power and AgilityEco, we’ve been able to generate money back into the local authority, with funds going right back into supporting and sustaining council services in our borough, which benefits everyone.”
The council says the new site builds on its energy projects, which include the solar farm at Wheat Leasows which has already generated £500,000, used for council service.
People switching using the service won't have to contact their supplier or change direct debits, the new energy site switch.telford.gov.uk will do it for them.
