The owners of The Rock House Inn, at Farley, near Much Wenlock, spent £500,000 over 20 years renovating the venue before putting it up for sale in 2014.

June and John Gittings, bought the pub in 1993 but due to the lack of custom it closed in May 2014.

Mr Gittings had dedicated his life to completely renovating the building. Work included extending the building and converting the old cellar and barrel drop.

It has been up for sale since and the owners have had interested parties view it but have declined to purchase because of the lack of custom in the area.

That is when the owners sought planning permission to change the use of the building to residential. That permission has now been granted.

The owners said in a covering letter in the application: "The Rock House was put on the market with Christie and Co. in May 2014 until approximately November 2014. Due to no sale prospects from them we took it off with them, and tried to sell it ourselves.

"We had two interests and both times and both times it was rejected due to a lack of accounts and customers.

"It is now up for sale with Sidney Phillips and has been drastically reduced. It has been up with them since May 2015 and they are marketing it all over the county on their website and sending details to clients. We have had several viewings, but ended up again with no sale due to the lack of residents in the immediate area."
