Land next to Stafford Road Porsche garage could become petrol station
Vacant land next to a coffee shop on the edge of Wolverhampton could be turned into a petrol station if council bosses approve the idea.
Plans submitted to Wolverhampton council reveal land by the new Costa Coffee branch next to Stafford Road, at the junction with the M54, could be used as a petrol station for Euro Garages.
The site also houses a Porsche garage.
If approved, the new garage would include a retail unit and provide jobs for local people, according to the applicant.
The petrol station would have a total of six pumps and an adjoining shop.
The shop would be glass and aluminium fronted, as well as being landscaped with the planting of new trees.
There will be a total of 13 parking spaces included in the development, a bicycle store and an electric charging point.
Euro Garages said in a statement: “The site is located within a commercialised setting as well as within easy reach of several residential areas.
“It is considered a petrol filling station at the site would provide a valued road side facility complementing the area’s existing offer whilst providing small top-up shopping provision for local residents and the local business community.
“The proposal would result in job creation for local people and represents sustainable economic development.”
Euro Garages, now based in Blackburn, was first launched in Bury in 2001.
Since then, it has expanded to provide 338 sites throughout the UK, as well as operating in excess of 67 drive-to and drive-through coffee shops and restaurants, almost 200 fast food restaurants and 100 bakeries.
A statement on the company’s application says: “The company’s vision is to collaboratively engage and work with leading retail brand partners to be able to deliver a world class fuel, convenience, food and drink offer that exceeds the expectations of the modern consumer.”
The proposal has been shared by ward councillors who want to hear residents’ feedback on the plans.
Councillor Ian Angus, Labour councillor for Bushbury North, said: “I’m keen to hear from residents but the feedback I have received so far has been overwhelmingly positive.
“If planning permission is approved the proposed development will fill vacant land, improve consumer choice and create new jobs.”
