P.J. Barnett Associates, on behalf of St Philips Care Caledonia, has applied to transform the former Lady Lambert Nursing Home, Ash Magna, into five residential apartments.

The 17th century building was altered and enlarged in the 19th century.

The building was last used as a nursing home until it shut in 2005 and has remained closed ever since.

Under the plans, the building would be transformed into two one bedroom flats and three two bedroom flats.

The plans say: "The proposed is within the size and scale of the existing property and its surroundings. Therefore, the proposals are not out of character with the surrounding area.

"The proposed conversion will be accommodated within the site and surrounds because the existing footprint is utilised and will not be altered."

It adds: "It is the intention of St Philips Care Caledonia to sympathetically convert this Grade II Listed property.

"Where possible all new stud walls, internal services and drainage will be installed in such a manner to ensure that all existing skirting boards and architraves, cornices, etc, are retained in whole sections.

"The property will be renovated and restored using traditional materials and building techniques. The elevations will be restores following the removal of the fire escapes and associated platforms."

Vehicles will access the site off Ash Road via a gated entrance which is set back from the carriageway.

The plans will be considered by Shropshire Council in the coming months.
