£27,000 premium for homes in Newport Girls' High School catchment area
Parents are paying more than £27,000 more for a home within the catchment area of one of Shropshire's top schools.
House prices near Newport Girls' High School, one of England's 30 top performing secondary institutions, are on average £245,164, which is 13 per cent more than the average of £217,600 for the town as a whole.
The figures compiled by Lloyds Bank also show how prices near the best state schools have grown almost twice as fast as the rest of the country since 2013.
Newport Girls' High School ranks eighth in the top ten highest premiums paid by homeowners to live near the best schools.
In some areas of the country, parents are paying £600,000 more for a home within the catchment area for the desired place of study for their children.
Homeowners near Beaconsfield High School have an average house price of £1,018,794, compared to the £408,908 average in the rest of Buckinghamshire.
Other schools where homes within walking distance rocket compared with others nearby include Cheshire institutions Altrincham Grammar and Loreto Grammar, as well as Henrietta Barnett School in Barnet and Dr Challoner's High in Buckinghamshire.

"While there is most definitely a premium attached to some neighbourhoods surrounding the best state schools across the country, there are also many that come in under the county average, particularly outside of London and the South East where homes remain more affordable versus average earnings."
