Samsung is to release refurbished versions of its Galaxy Note 7 on July 7 – following the Note 7’s recall last year over fire and safety concerns.

The Galaxy Note Fan Edition (FE) has been built using unopened and unused Note 7 parts, Samsung said, and is a “meaningful” launch in that is minimises the waste otherwise created by unused Note 7 parts.

It will go on sale in South Korea on July 7, with Samsung leaving open the possibility it will be placed on sale in the wider world by saying such a decision will be “decided later”.

The number of Note FE handsets going on sale has also been limited to 400,000.

The Note FE is much the same as the Note 7, but it will also now come with Bixby, Samsung’s smart virtual assistant that was unveiled earlier this year.

It has also been suggested that the next generation in the Note family – the Note 8 – could be unveiled as early as August, complete with a dual-rear camera for the first time.
