Alexa can now unlock Yale smart locks
And the tech works on either voice command or via the Alexa app.
Voice command can be used to unlock homes after Yale announced extended support for Amazon Alexa.
Residents using a Yale Assure Lock can enter the property after giving an “unlock” command.
For added security, the unlock command must be followed up by a previously set four-to-eight digit pin.
In addition, users can unlock the smart deadbolt via the Alexa app.
The key to the new feature is that the bolt can be unlocked when used with a compatible smart home hub, or the Amazon Echo Plus and Zigbee.
“With the addition of the new unlock skill, Yale Assure Locks can now be unlocked using Alexa voice commands,” explained Yale in a statement.
The unlock feature is turned off by default, but can be enabled by verifying Amazon credentials using the Alexa app.
“With the addition of the Alexa unlock feature, our locks now allow consumers to secure their homes and enter them using simple voice commands, delivering a new level of convenience without any compromise on security.”
A Yale Assure Lock deadbolt can be purchased as a standalone PIN-controlled lock or with a Yale Network Module installed for smart home integration.
