Snapchat introduces first sound-activated Lens
The new filter responds to sounds it hears when in use.
Snapchat has started rolling out its first Lens filter directly influenced by sound, as well as what the camera sees.
Already appearing on the Lens carousel in the app, the new filter features colourful whiskers and animal ears that pulse and move when the app picks up sound.
According to Engadget, the Lens is the first of many that will react to sound, with Snapchat said to be planning to roll out similar Lenses in the coming weeks.
Snapchat is wrapped up in an on-going social media battle with Facebook and its family of apps – including Instagram and WhatsApp – for the attention of teenage social media users.
Introducing sound-based Lens filters is Snapchat’s latest effort to stand out in the increasingly crowded space of social networking platforms.
