Uber booking no longer possible in Google Maps on Android

The ability to book an Uber within the Google Maps app for Android has been removed.

Previously, the feature had enabled users to not only find out the estimated price of a journey with the ride-sharing app, but also to book the journey then and there.

However, Google Maps now only shows the estimated prices for Uber – as well as other ride-hailing services it supports such as Gett and mytaxi – before asking users to switch to the official app to complete the booking.

The booking feature was removed from the iOS version of Google Maps last year.

In a statement, the technology giant said the move was part of a constant process of testing done on the Maps app.

“We’re always experimenting with new features for Google Maps,” a Google spokesman said.

“Based on feedback, we determine whether these changes roll out permanently.”

The stance suggests the feature is unlikely to return at any point soon.

The help page for Google Maps also confirmed the change and also reiterated how users would now have to go about requesting a ride via Google Maps.

“You can no longer book Uber rides directly in Google Maps. But you can still look up the route in the Maps app and then request the ride from the Uber app,” it says.
