PlayStation has unveiled a limited edition two terabyte PlayStation 4 Pro to celebrate selling more than 500 million units of the games console.

The special edition console comes in a new dark finish and with a semi-translucent blue controller, and will be available from August 24 for £450.

The price is significantly higher than what Sony normally charges for the Pro console – around £350 – although the 2TB storage is double what it traditionally ships with.

The first PlayStation console went on sale in Japan in December 1994 before being succeeded by the PS2, PS3 and PS4, as well as handheld devices the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PlayStation Vita.

Maker Sony also confirmed the PS4 had now sold more than 81 million units as of July 22, keeping the console out in front of Microsoft’s rival Xbox One X.
