Nintendo has unveiled a new range of games for its Switch console – including a series of Final Fantasy titles.

The hugely popular role-playing game will see a range of classic titles, including Final Fantasy VII, launch on the hybrid home-mobile console over the coming months and into 2019.

The Japanese gaming giant also confirmed that its much anticipated online subscription service will go live on September 19.

Switch Online will enable those who pay a monthly fee to play online against friends and other Switch players, and access classic games from the firm’s 1980s console – the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

To further up the nostalgia factor, the firm is to launch a dedicated wireless gamepad for the Switch based on the controllers for the NES.

New Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion games have been announced too.

With half an eye on the holiday season, Nintendo also revealed some new console and game bundle options which will go on sale in November.

Two special edition Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! collections complete with coloured Joy-Con controllers were unveiled.

The Switch has been a huge success for Nintendo, helping drive a return to profitability for the company with sales close to 20 million units since the system launched last year.

The success of the console, which can function both as a home-based system and portable gaming device, has seen Nintendo return to prominence at the top of the gaming world, alongside PlayStation and Xbox.
