Video technology one of many features to be included in Football Manager 2019

Football Manager has announced a host of new features, including video technology, which are set to revolutionise the game.

Football Manager’s Twitter account posted the details of some key updates with the promise of more over the coming days and weeks, but for now there’s plenty for fans to get stuck into.

Perhaps the most notable feature is the introduction of video technology in the form of goal-line tech and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), which dominated the headlines during much of the 2018 World Cup.

The technology will be available in competitions that use them in real life.

Also worthy of note is the news Sports Interactive has signed a licensing agreement which will see clubs from the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 playing in official kits and badges with official player faces.

That adds 36 fully licensed clubs from the top two leagues in Germany to the game, while FM19 will also feature a full German language translation.

Among other updates, the game’s tactics module has had a revamp, allowing managers to either pick from popular systems or develop their own philosophies.

So feel free to be inspired by Pep Guardiola’s passing game, or go your own way and create your very own style to combat his.

“We’ve been through a major shift as a studio over the last year; moving office, improving our working practices as a team and spending a huge amount of time looking ‘under the hood’ of Football Manager,” said Miles Jacobson, director of Football Manager.

“The result of all this work can be seen throughout Football Manager 2019 – it has a clean new look, and lots of freshness under the hood too, not only with the new features, but also lots of other changes that make it an even more compelling experience to play.

“We’re all very proud of what we’ve achieved with FM19 and are very much looking forward to hearing what our fans have to say when they get their hands on it.”

The game is to be released on PC and Mac, along with mobile and touch versions, on November 2, while those wanting to play on the Nintendo Switch version of FM19 Touch will have to wait until later in November.
