Anyone hoping to play Fortnite’s Save The World mode for free this year will have to wait a little longer as developers continue work on the game.

Save The World, the player vs environment version of the title, has been available as a paid-for Early Access mode since launching in July 2017.

Makers Epic Games had intended to make the title free to play at some point this year, once it had finished developing the game.

With little over two months left of 2018, the company has announced it will no longer become free this year while it works on a “broad set of features, reworks, and back-end system scaling”.

“Scaling up for the legions of player heroes who will be joining the fight is key to providing an excellent experience,” Epic Games explained.

“This applies to all of our players, old and new, so we’re taking the time to get this right.”

The game-maker is running a 50% sale on the Early Access packs, however, starting from £17.49 for the standard edition.

This could work out cheaper than buying V-bucks in the long run as there are opportunities to farm the virtual currency in Save The World and spend them in Battle Royale.

Battle Royale, in which gamers play against others online, will remain free despite technically still being in development as well.
