Apple brings Group FaceTime, new emojis and dual SIM support in iOS update
iOS 12.1 comes on the day Apple is expected to launch new iPad and Macbook devices.
Apple has rolled out its latest iOS software update to iPhone and iPads, with the ability to FaceTime up to 32 people among the new features.
Group FaceTime was originally intended for the iOS 12 release in mid-September but was pushed back to the smaller iOS 12.1 update for further development.
The feature was one of several additions to land on the operating system on Tuesday, ahead of the company’s latest launch event in New York, largely tipped to be the centrepiece for new iPad and MacBook devices.
iOS 12.1 also plays host to more than 70 new emojis, ranging from faces with red, grey and curly hair, as well as a bald person.
Dual SIM, the ability to run two phone numbers through the same phone, will be switched on for iPhone XS and XR users from Tuesday.
The option means users can continue running a primary number with a SIM card while adding a secondary number using a digital eSIM – although only EE has confirmed that it will support the mobile technology so far.
Apple is including some camera software improvements in the latest update as well, introducing Depth Control so that users can adjust the depth of field in real-time preview and after they have captured the photo.
