Music streaming provider Deezer has launched a free radio app to compete with the likes of BBC Sounds and Spotify which aims to offer a unique seamless listening experience.

The app provides live streams of more than 30,000 radio stations worldwide and is available without additional advertising on Android.

Radio by Deezer is particularly useful for existing Deezer paid subscribers, as users can hit ‘like’ on tracks as they hear them on some radio stations, which are instantly added to a playlist in their account.

“Radio fans deserve an experience tailored to their exact needs,” said Olivier Miljeu, Radio By Deezer product manager.

“Our easy to use app provides fast access to their favourite stations, all with an undisturbed, ad-free, listening experience.

“Gone are the days of thinking it’s too late to get the song you just heard on the radio, and now with just a quick tap you can add it straight to your library.”

Deezer’s latest move comes amid increased competition in the music streaming market, with Spotify leading the pack, followed closely by Apple Music and Amazon Prime Music.

In the free radio app market, Radio by Deezer contends with BBC Sounds, which has already racked up more than 100,000 downloads on Android and is number seven in the iOS free music app chart.

The app also takes on longtime radio app TuneIn, which features advertising alongside its offering.

Radio by Deezer is expected to arrive on iOS soon.
