Gaming streamer Ninja has managed to lure one million subscribers over to Microsoft’s Mixer platform since jumping ship from Twitch five days ago.

The American gamer, whose real name is Tyler Blevins, started streaming from his new online home on Friday, marking the end of a hugely profitable partnership with Amazon-owned streaming giant Twitch.

Ninja rose to fame among the gaming community for broadcasting himself online playing Fortnite and other video games on Twitch and YouTube, as well as hosting games alongside the likes of rappers Drake and Travis Scott.

The 28-year-old went on Twitter to thank fans for the milestone, saying: “Today we hit 1,000,000 active subscribers on mixer ^-^ thank you for all the incredible support.

“I haven’t felt this good in a long time.”

Ninja was brought onto Mixer in a bid to take a bigger slice of the ever-growing video game streaming business, which is largely led by Twitch.

Last year, Microsoft reported that it had 10 million monthly users, while Twitch had over 100 million.

However, the real test will come once a free promotion currently running on Mixer ends, which provides users with extras such as no advertising for a limited time.

The amount of people following Ninja’s page on Mixer stands at over 800,000 – still a way to go to reach the 14.7 million followers he had on Twitch.

Over on YouTube, Ninja has more than 22 million subscribers.
