New view of £7m Shrewsbury car park plan revealed
This is the latest image showing how a £7 million multi-storey car park planned for Shrewsbury town centre could look.
The 467-space car park, submitted by Morris Property, would have a brick facade and fill in the gap site between the Pride Hill and Darwin Shopping Centres, as this impression shows.
Motorists would drive in from Raven Meadows and there are plans to link the car park with Pride Hill, Shrewsbury's main shopping area.
Talks are due to take place with Thomas Cook, which owns the premises where the entrance to Pride Hill would be.
Robin Morris, chairman of Morris Property, said the proposal would be an ideal solution for what he described as an "underutilised" site.
He added: "We believe the car park will make a significant contribution to the town centre's vitality and, importantly, its ability to compete with the challenge of out of town shopping."
A design and access statement in support of the application said it was intended to look as modern as possible, with 'clean, crisp and modern' materials that would weather over time.
The architect had also chosen to keep the building simple in order to stop it looking too 'busy'.
Bosses from the company said if the car park gained planning permission, construction will coincide with the opening of Shrewsbury's new £150 million shopping complex in autumn 2015.
But they maintained that no work had yet been done.
