10-year-old Maisy gets MP to act over speeding worries
Council and police chiefs will be asked to look at the issue of motorists speeding through a village on the Powys/Shropshire border after the MP received a letter from concerned 10-year-old.
Maisy Williams from Llandrinio, near Welshpool. wrote to Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies complaining that motorists speed through her village.
Mr Davies met with Maisy and they viewed traffic travelling on the B4393 past her house, with Mr Davies said he would be raising the issue after finding the road was 'extremely hazardous' to cross.
Mr Davies said Maisy wrote to him to complain that too many motorists were ignoring the 50mph signs on her road.
She was worried people would be unable to cross safely and could be knocked over.
Mr Davies said: "Maisy is absolutely correct to be worried about traffic speeding past her house. I am very pleased she has asked me to help. Having visited Maisy it's clear that some motorists are not observing the speed limit as they should.
"The stretch of B4393 in Llandrinio where the 50mph limit runs through is a built-up area. It's extremely hazardous to cross the road safely. It is important to maintain the safety of pedestrians as well as the convenience of motorists, and I will be raising the issue with the police and Powys County Council to check what steps can be taken to stop excessive speeding."
A spokesman from Powys County Council said: "We take road safety as a very serious issue. Should concerns be raised we will fully investigate and see what action would be appropriate."
