The Highways Agency is carrying out resurfacing work to the eastbound section of the A5 between Shrewsbury and Wellington. It is expected to last up to seven days and will see the eastbound carriageway shut between 9pm and 6am.

Officials said the work was essential to create 'safer driving conditions' along the road between the Preston Island junction at Shrewsbury to junction 7 of the M54 at Wellington.

They have urged people to allow extra time for their journeys. A diversion will be set up sending eastbound traffic along the old A5 from Emstrey Island.

Jessica Kenny, Highways Agency project manager, said: "This essential work will improve driving conditions and remove the need for lengthier works in the future."
