Major work on A5 postponed
Motorists travelling on the A5 between Shrewsbury and Telford were spared roadworks misery last night - but their relief is only temporary as the work was postponed to later this month.
The eastbound carriageway was due to close last night and be shut overnight for the rest of the week between the Preston Island junction at Shrewsbury and junction seven of the M54 at Wellington for essential resurfacing.
The work is now expected to take place overnight from September 20 to 26.
When work does begin traffic will be directed along the old A5 - now the B4380 and B5061 through Atcham.
The work will take place between 9.30pm and 6.30am to reduce traffic congestion.
A spokeswoman for the Highways Agency confirmed the work had been rescheduled and changes to road works happen 'all the time'.
Meanwhile, tailbacks built up on Telford's major commuter road yesterday when part of the route was closed for maintenance.
The A442 Queensway, known was closed from Brockton Roundabout to Stirchley yesterday afternoon as part of on-going works.
Russell Griffin, spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said the work was to make sure the road was in top condition and that it had been re-opened at about 4pm.
