Disruption as work on A5 starts
Motorists are facing more than a week of major disruptions along Shropshire's busiest road from today as resurfacing work is carried out.
The Highways Agency will start work on the eastbound carriageway of the A5 between Bayston Hill and Emstrey in Shrewsbury from 8pm tonight, with the road closure remaining in place until 6am.
Diversions will be put in place, with the overnight works running between the same times until Thursday.
But there will be no let-up for drivers, with a different section of the A5 between Shrewsbury and Telford closing from Thursday evening as almost a week's worth of overnight work begins.
The job had originally been due to take place from September 10, but was postponed until this week in a move the Highways Agency said will 'minimise disruption' for drivers.
The work, which is costing £380,000, will see the eastbound carriageway shut overnight each evening between the Preston Island junction at Shrewsbury and junction seven of the M54 at Wellington for resurfacing. It is scheduled to last until September 26, with the closure from 9.30pm to 6.30am.
